Performing

I trained at Circomedia, academy for circus and physical theatre in Bristol, leaving in 1999. A fellow graduate Mark Conway and I founded Gonzo Moose, a contemporary clown company and I worked with him and a range of small and mid scale touring theatre companies, travelling the length and breadth of the UK. During the summer, when theatres are traditionally empty, I began to learn about the world of street theatre through a company which sadly no longer exists – called Brink of Distinction. They offered a number of high quality walkabout acts, the most popular being The Penguins. I discovered the delight of tempting strangers to be stupid with me and a consequent love of outdoor performance. I established Red Herring Productions to create outdoor work in 2008 and while I have performed in most projects to date, I continue to work as a freelancer with other companies.

My performance credits are wide ranging, including Full Circle, an outdoor show by Avanti Display, involving 2 humourless clowns and 120 tin buckets (directed by Bill Palmer), Opening Skinner’s Box – a show about psychology with Improbable (directed by Phelim McDermott and Lee Simpson), The Bonnet Maker in a promenade version of The Hunting of the Snark (directed by Joe Hancock), The Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland for the New Vic Theatre (directed by Theresa Heskins), The Enchanted Palace, a theatrical installation at Kensington Palace for Wildworks (directed by Bill Mitchell and Nicola Rosewarne) ; Sturgeon Moon a series of outdoor performances traveling along the River Severn with Desperate Men (directed by Jon Beedell); Rough Magyck, a piece made for the RSC with the wonderfully inventive Forkbeard Fantasy (directed by Andy Hay) and Romeo and Juliet for Shifting Sands (directed by Gerry Flanagan).
